# 6 Online Image Generators
February 25, 2008
Listen to audio here
Generators? No, I’m not talking about those gas powered back-up things. The generators I’m talking about are websites that allow you to easily manipulate images.

For this discovery exercise, we want you to find a few fun image or text generators to play around with and write a post in your blog about one of your favorites and then display the result. Often adding the image you mocked up to your blog is as simple as copying and pasting code that the page provides. If not, you may just need to right click on the image and then save it to your hard drive before using Wordpress’ ‘insert image’ button to add it to your post. If you’re having difficulty getting your image added to a post in your blog, ask a colleague for help or contact us.
Discovery Exercise:

1. Play around with some image generators and find one that you like.
2. Post the result of your discovery process in your blog.
Note: Be sure to include a link to the image generator itself, so other participants can discover it too. Take some time and have fun with this exercise. And remember to be tasteful too!
Discovery Resources:
-The Generator Blog FD Flickr Toys
-Also try searching for online generators, text generators or image generators such as Comic Strip Generator, Image Chef.
- Image Generator- large selection of categories to choose from.
- JellyMuffin Image Generator
- Cool Text
-Make images from text- Font Image Generator

i have made a worhol like picture from the image generator and I think I have added it to my blog. I do feel as though I am playing in the dark a bit though. I hope I have time to come back and explore further.

I have downloaded apicture I made into a jigsaw, but the only link that showed in my blog was for the original site, NOT my own photo. I’ll keep trying. Fun

I know its not quite a traditional image generator - but my media kids love it. Its a superhero generator - it makes comic book style characters. You choose the body and then dress it. I have also made a student kit to go with it which I will make available if required.

I have tried a number of the image generators and created a number of exciting publications and photos. I have uploaded my magazine cover to flickr but can’t find it anywhere on flickr. I still haven’t worked out how to upload the work to my blog. I have uploaded a photo to my blog but it has taken up so much space i don’t know how to make it smaller. If anyone has any ideas I would like to know.

I was quite lucky. I managed to access several image generator sites, find something I liked and even rustled up some appropriate text to match.
As far as links are concerned, I simply added a link to the main site of my chosen image generator in the body of my post.

This was fun - my dog looked very winning in his photo frame, but I failed to post it to my Blog - again! What is wrong with my technique?

Online image generators
Fun and lots to look at. Where do the hours go when working on these things? So much out there. A good idea to bookmark the things you like.

My favorite activity was turning a photograph of myself into an assortment of Andy Warhol screenprints using ‘warholizer’. It was a scream. I felt famous for about fifteen minutes.

Dare I say I didn’t enjoy this activity much. It took too long to understand what I could use & then longer to do it
23. dartagnon | May 27th, 2008 at 2:31 am
Slowly getting there with it, just finding it hard to find the time.
24. odohertym | May 28th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
My dog is now on the cover of TV Stars!
25. librarylass | June 2nd, 2008 at 6:18 am
I made an alien from a pair of binoculars! I only liked one site and that was the Big Hot one. You can waste an awful lot of time on these things can’t you!

I had some fun with the image generators and particularly liked Flickr Toys which I used to create a Warholizer picture of my granddaughter. I thought that I had uploaded this picture to my blog but found that it is not displayed.

28. eday | June 5th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Now this is fun. Really enjoyed poking around these tools. Made a calendar of our dogs in Flickr Toys which was rather clever I thought.
Also added the link to my blog so others can enjoy making a calendar too!!

I made a jig saw from an image. I didn’t realize how many programs existed for generating images
31. chrisb | June 12th, 2008 at 12:37 am
I really didn’t enjoy this - seems like a complete waste of time. Maybe for some people …..
32. zorro | June 12th, 2008 at 1:39 am
Have wasted too much time on this activity. Potentially looks like fun but couldn’t get it to work and I’ve got correction to do and reports to write.
